Fleet History: The Original Boat
SeaSalt Charters began with the motor vessel KUPALA. Named after Capt. Avellar’s daughter, the KUPALA was a Coast Guard certified, 28’ Parker boat powered by twin 250 Mercury Verado outboards.
Capt. Avellar’s obsession with fishing, and his dream of taking people out on private whale watches, led him to this boat. However, after 10 years and over 2,000 whale watches on the KUPALA, Capt. Chad realized that the KUPALA had limitations, and to maximize the private whale watch experience he needed to upgrade and expand the fleet. Our current fleet of boats allows us to view the whales on a more comfortable platform and offers a more stable ride out to the whales. And we have not sacrificed speed so we still get more time in the area of the whales than other whale watch boats and more quality looks.
